The key element of this project was the development of an attachment that is tailored to the customer’s specific requirements. The attachment is picked up like a container with the reach stacker’s standard spreader. The telescopic function causes the attachment’s tongs to open and close again, in order to pick up the pipes securely by their openings using mandrels. This system makes it possible to handle either one large pipe or two smaller ones at the same time.
Initially, the attachment was delivered with fixed grippers that could pick up pipes of the same or slightly different lengths. After further requests from the customer, the technology was optimised: movable clamps were developed that can be individually positioned in addition to the telescopic function of the attachment. This means that even pipes with greater differences in length can be picked up precisely. This innovation significantly increases the flexibility and versatility of the reach stackers.
A particular advantage of this attachment is that it can be quickly disassembled. Thanks to the pick-up via the spreader, the device can be easily removed. The reach stacker is thus ready for container handling again in no time. This multifunctionality makes the machines an ideal choice for companies that have to handle both containers and pipes.
