Container Handlers: The Smaller Siblings of Reach Stackers

Container Handlers

Container handlers

Container handlers are often regarded as the smaller siblings of reach stackers. Like their larger counterparts, container handlers are divided into two types: for empty and for laden containers.

Laden Container Handlers: Specialized Deployment

Fully loaded container handlers are commonly used in countries where additional qualifications are required for operating a reach stacker. In these vehicles, the load “hangs” under the spreader, meaning such reach stacker operators are considered crane operators and are accordingly paid more, although the cost of the handler itself is about the same as that of a reach stacker. One disadvantage of such handlers is that they cannot pick up containers from a second row, and their visibility is restricted by the mast.

Empty Container Handlers: Versatile and Cost-Effective

However, empty container handlers are widespread worldwide. The reason lies in their comparatively lower cost and the ability to stack up to 10 containers high and handle two containers simultaneously. This flexibility makes them particularly valuable for use in logistics centers and ports, where efficiency and speed are crucial.
